Strcutural
Design
1-What
is Strcutural Design?
Structural
design deals with stability and strength of
structures like buildings, bridges, towers etc.
Strcutural Designing is determining the Economical
size, Durable composition and Convenient placement
of a structural member to achieve stability and
strength.
2-What
is difference between an Architect and an
Engineer?
An
Engineer to strength and stability of a building
is what an Architect is to functional and
aesthetic design of a building.
3-Is
structural design necessary for every building?
Yes.
Each building is unique in its location,
orientation, loading, founding strata of soil
which govern its stability and strength.
4-Can
one save enough to justify hiring a structural
engineer?
Yes,
a small saving in small budget may save a big
fraction and a small fractional saving in big
budget may save big amount.
5-What
methodology does TECHPRO adopt for structural
analysis?
3-D
space frame which yields most realistic behavior
of a building model.
6-Does
TECHPRO deals with seismic and wind effects?
Yes.
We incorporate effects of earthquake and heavy
wind as per the latest Indian standards laid by
Bureau of Indian Standards.
7-Does
TECHPRO undertake supervision for structural work?
Yes.
We can provide supervisory services to the client
if they ask for, at a nominal additional fee.
8-Does
TECHPRO undertake structural design for steel
buildings?
Yes.
We deal in steel as well as RCC structures. In
fact we have designed a number of steel buildings
with multiple levels like edible oil refineries,
stainless steel plants, food, soap and other
chemical industries.
Sub-Soil
Investigation
1-What
is sub-soil investigation?
Sub-soil
investigation is determining the engineering
properties of underlying soil for construction of
safe and strong foundations.
2-Is
soil testing for agricultural purpose different?
Yes,
that is basically soil-chemistry and deals with
fertility of soil.
3-Why
do we need soil investigation?
It
is required to determine the numerical value of
SBC and optimal depth and type of foundation.
4-What
is SBC?
It
is Safe Bearing Capacity of soil strata – a
numerical value used to indicate the safe load
over a unit area of soil for particular depth and
type of foundation.
5-Is
the SBC varies for different type and depths of
foundations?
Yes.
It is less for strip like load bearing wall
footings and more for square footings, even more
for large raft foundation.
6-Is
SBC constant in a small locality?
No.
It may vary in a very small plot depending on the
surroundings.
7-Do
surroundings affect SBC?
Yes.
Surrounding geographical features like natural
drains, canals, rivers, ponds, slops, steep-cuts
etc do effect the SBC of a soil strata.
